Visa types and costs

Tourist visa (max. 15 days stay), visitor visa (max. 90 days stay, extendable). More information from the consulate or the consular section of the embassy.

Validity

Up to 90 days. Business visa for a stay of up to 3 months or up to 12 months. Personally by appointment at the consulate or at the consular department of the embassy (see contact addresses). German and Turkish citizens can also apply for a visa online.

Application required

Private visa: (a) 1 application form (downloadable from the website of the responsible diplomatic mission) (the consulate in Berlin requires typewritten visa applications). (b) 3 passport photos. (c) Passport, valid for at least six months upon entry, with at least one blank page and copies of all relevant pages. (d) Fee (cash or personal check). (e) Health certificate (Recent HIV test and Hepatitis test), not required for tourists. (f) Proof of sufficient funds (account statements). (g) Applicants without family ties in Iraq must enclose a legalized letter of invitation from the host or the respective company stating the purpose of the trip for private trips. (h) if applicable Residence permit for Germany, Austria or Switzerland that is still valid for at least six months. Business Visa: (a)-(h), (i) Letter of invitation from Iraqi business partner stating purpose and duration of travel, approved by Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Baghdad. (j) Fee. (k) Letter of support from the Foreign Office/Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the traveller’s country of origin. (l) Letter of support from a Chamber of Commerce or the Chamber of Commerce. (m) Letter of Assignment.

Documents required upon entry

All travelers other than tourists who do not have a recent negative HIV test result upon arrival must present it within 10 days of arrival. Tourist visa holders are exempt from this rule.

Entry with children

German: Own passport. Austrians: Own passport. Swiss: Own passport. Turks: Own passport. Note: The same visa requirements apply to children as to their parents. Since June 27, 2012, children need their own travel document (passport / children’s passport) for trips abroad (also within the EU). Entries of children in the parental passport are no longer possible.
