Wisconsin Lutheran College was first established in 1973 as a four-year institution of higher learning. At the time, it was known as Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary and was located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The college was founded by members of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod who wanted to provide theological and professional education to their members. In the early years, the college offered only two degrees: a Bachelor of Arts in Religion and a Master of Divinity.

In 1987, the college moved from Milwaukee to its current location in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. During this time, it changed its name to Wisconsin Lutheran College and began offering more academic programs such as business administration, accounting and computer science. The college also added new student services such as counseling and career planning, student organizations and clubs for students to get involved with on campus. In addition to its academic offerings, the college also offers study abroad opportunities for all students so that they can experience different cultures around the world while earning credits towards their degree. Today, Wisconsin Lutheran College is a vibrant community of more than 1,600 undergraduate and graduate students who are preparing for successful careers or continuing their education at other institutions of higher learning after graduation.
