Whistler, Canada

According to ezinereligion, Whistler – Blakcomb is a famous resort 120 km north of Vancouver, combining two high mountains, Whistler and Blackcomb with the largest elevation changes in North America for skiing – 1530 and 1609 m, respectively. The International Olympic Committee selected this resort as the venue for the 2010 Winter Olympics.

By the way, Mount Blackcomb is the main snowboarding resort in British Columbia. The height of the snow cover here reaches 914 cm, and the height difference is 1609 m. The resort has more than a hundred slopes, of which 50% are of medium difficulty and 17 lifts: one high-speed gondola, 9 chairlifts and 7 rope tows. For snowboarders, there are three “fan parks” and a “superpipe”.

Apres ski in the resort is very rich – more than 200 restaurants, bars and nightclubs, nine mountain restaurants, ecological tours, mountain biking, fishing, golf, hiking and horseback riding, rafting, glacier riding.

Shopping and shops

According to franciscogardening, Whistler has more than 200 shops for every taste: souvenirs, sports, fashion and perfume boutiques – and even Aldergrove Duty Free. And Farmer’s Bazaar in Upper Whistler sells just about anything, from local artisans and jewelry to homemade cakes and fresh produce.

Whistler and Blackcomb tracks

Here is the highest-speed lift system in the world, and the number of slopes exceeds two hundred, of which 20% are easy slopes, 55% are moderately difficult, and 25% are very difficult. Since the snow here usually falls more than 10 meters per season, and there are also a lot of snow cannons, the winter season is very long – from November to June.

Both ski areas are good in their own way: there are not weak slopes with dozens of steep slopes in rocky spurs and calmer ones in a wooded area. The elevation difference is about 1600 m, and the longest runs on both sides reach 11 km. Excellent “black” slopes on Mount Double Black Diamond pass through the edge of the Horstman Glacier (where two lifts go in summer) and further, to the mountain restaurant “Rendezvous”. The names of these extreme descents are “Couloir Extreme” and “Big Bang”.

In addition, Whistler – Blackcomb is the best place for snowboarders in North America, thanks to the large area of snow skiing and the abundance of fun parks and half-pipes of different difficulty levels. Snowboard camps are open throughout the season. Between January and March, a series of snowboard competitions take place at the end of each week.

Perhaps the only fly in the ointment is the relatively high prices for lifts.

Entertainment and attractions

Of interest are the Meadow Park amusement park, the historical Clendinning Provincial Park, standing in the middle of the forest, as well as the Alpha and Lakeside parks located near the lakes. For those wishing to get acquainted with the fauna of the region, special excursions to its protected forests are offered.

Whistler has several art galleries with paintings and sculptures by contemporary Canadian artists. For example, galleries Adele-Campbell, Black Tusk or the popular Path Gallery.

From entertainment – “snowmobiles” and mountain bikes, hiking and snowshoeing, sledding, ice rink, swimming pool, golf, rafting, fishing, horseback riding.

There are unusually many places where you can spend a good evening in the resort. From sledge “snow shows” and cowboy saloons to classic restaurants with live music and techno discos (like the popular disco clubs Tommy Africa’s, Maxx Fish and Garfinkel’s).
