Wheelock College was founded in 1888 by Lucy Wheelock as a training school for kindergarten teachers. It was originally known as Miss Wheelock’s Kindergarten Training School and was located in Boston, Massachusetts. The school was the first of its kind in the United States and quickly gained recognition as a leader in early childhood education. In 1904, the school changed its name to Wheelock College to reflect its growing presence and expanding curriculum. The college continued to grow and expand over the years, adding new departments and programs to its curriculum. In 1942, Wheelock College merged with the Boston Museum of Fine Arts School of Practical Art to form the Museum of Fine Arts/Wheelock College Consortium. This partnership allowed students from both schools access to a broader range of educational opportunities. In 1973, Wheelock College moved from Boston to Brookline, Massachusetts, where it is currently located. Today, Wheelock College offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs in fields such as Education, Social Work, Human Development and Family Studies, Health Sciences and Nonprofit Management. Wheelock College is an independent college located in Boston, Massachusetts. It is one of the oldest colleges in the United States, having been founded in 1888 by educator Lucy Wheelock. The college has a total enrollment of approximately 1,300 undergraduate students and 500 graduate students. The student body is diverse and consists of students from across the United States and around the world. The college’s acceptance rate for fall 2019 was 68%, with 895 accepted out of 1,313 applicants. Of those accepted, 59% were female and 41% were male. Approximately 66% of accepted students identified as Caucasian/White, 15% as Asian/Asian American/Pacific Islander, 8% as Hispanic/Latinx, 5% as African American/Black, 2% as multiracial/other, and 4% did not identify with a racial or ethnic group.
