Weber State University has a long and proud history that dates back to 1889 when it was founded as Weber Stake Academy. The first classes were held in an old adobe fort, but the demand for higher education quickly led to the construction of a larger facility. By 1893, the school had become Weber Normal College, offering two-year teacher training programs. In 1933, it was renamed Weber College and began offering four-year courses in liberal arts and business. In 1962, it became Weber State College and began offering master’s degrees. Finally, in 1991, the college was granted university status by the Utah State Board of Regents and was officially named Weber State University.

Today, Weber State University is an accredited public university that serves over 25,000 students each year.
