Warner University was founded in 1968 by the late Reverend Dr. J.O. Patterson, Sr., a pastor and civil rights leader from Memphis, Tennessee. The university’s mission was to provide quality education to African-American students who were historically excluded from higher education opportunities because of their race. Warner University was the first four-year Historically Black College or University (HBCU) in Polk County, Florida.

Over the years, Warner University has grown and evolved into a comprehensive university with a student body from all over the world.
