Virginia Intermont College Acceptance Rate, Average GPA, SAT and ACT Scores

Virginia Intermont College was founded in 1884 by the Rev. John A.R. Rogers and Dr. William Waugh Smith, two Baptist ministers who wanted to create a college of higher learning for young women in Southwest Virginia. The school was originally located on the site of a former Confederate camp, and its first class numbered just 12 students. Over the next few decades, Virginia Intermont grew into a respected college, expanding its curriculum to include academic and professional courses as well as offering opportunities for extracurricular activities like sports and music. In 1912, the college became coeducational, allowing men to receive an education alongside their female counterparts. By the 1920s, Virginia Intermont had developed into a thriving campus with over 500 students attending classes on campus or through correspondence courses offered by the college’s extension program. During this period, the college also began to construct new buildings such as Stonewall Hall, which served as an administrative center and student dormitory until it was destroyed by fire in 1951. The following decade saw Virginia Intermont expand its curriculum even further with new majors in business administration and pre-law added to its offerings. In the 1970s, Virginia Intermont began offering graduate degrees for the first time and expanded into new fields such as computer science and nursing. Today, Virginia Intermont College is still providing quality education for both undergraduate and graduate students from all over the world who are seeking an education rooted in Christian values and principles of service to others. See topschoolsintheusa for top high schools in Iowa.
