University of Wisconsin at La Crosse Acceptance Rate, Average GPA, SAT and ACT Scores

The University of Wisconsin at La Crosse was founded in 1909 as the La Crosse Normal School. It was established with the purpose of providing training for teachers in the region. The school initially had an enrollment of just 32 students, and its first classes were held in an old high school building. In 1927, the school was renamed the La Crosse State Teachers College and began offering degrees beyond a teaching certificate. The college then underwent a period of rapid growth, with enrollment increasing to over 1,000 students by 1951. In 1964, the college was renamed again to become the Wisconsin State College-La Crosse and began offering a wider range of academic programs. This led to further growth in enrollment and faculty numbers, as well as an expansion in campus facilities. In 1971, it became part of the University of Wisconsin System and was officially renamed the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (UWL). Since then UWL has continued to grow and now has an enrollment of over 11,000 students annually. It offers more than 80 undergraduate majors as well as graduate level programs in several disciplines including business administration, education and nursing.
