The University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire was founded in 1916 as the Eau Claire State Normal School. Initially, the school was designed to train teachers and offer two-year programs in education. In 1951, the school changed its name to Wisconsin State College-Eau Claire and began offering a wider range of degree programs in liberal arts and sciences.
