The University of Utah was established in 1850 and is the oldest institution of higher learning in the state. It began as the University of Deseret, a private school supported by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). In 1892, the school was renamed to the University of Utah and became a public university. The University of Utah has grown over the years to become one of the largest universities in the region.
