The University of Utah was established in 1850 and is the oldest institution of higher learning in the state. It began as the University of Deseret, a private school supported by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). In 1892, the school was renamed to the University of Utah and became a public university. The University of Utah has grown over the years to become one of the largest universities in the region. It now consists of 17 colleges and schools offering over 100 undergraduate majors and more than 90 graduate degree programs. Today, it is classified as a Research I university with high research activity by the Carnegie Classification system.
The university has undergone several expansions since its founding, including an expansion into Salt Lake City’s Research Park in 1969 which included new research facilities for faculty members from all disciplines. In addition to its main campus in Salt Lake City, it also has two satellite campuses located in Moab and St. George, both located in southern Utah. The university also operates satellite education centers throughout northern Utah that offer courses to remote students who are unable to attend classes on campus. In recent years, the university has been investing heavily into research initiatives such as renewable energy technology, nanotechnology and biomedical sciences. Additionally, its medical center offers healthcare services for patients from across Utah and surrounding states. See topschoolsintheusa for SAT test centers and dates in Missouri.
