University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas Acceptance Rate, Average GPA, SAT and ACT Scores

The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas (UTSW) was established in 1943, when the University of Texas Board of Regents authorized the construction of a medical school and hospital in the city. The following year, the Southwestern Medical Foundation was created to fund and manage the new medical center. The foundation purchased a tract of land in North Dallas, which would become the home of UTSW. Construction began shortly thereafter and by 1945, the first class had enrolled.

Throughout its history, UTSW has been dedicated to advancing medical science through research and education. In 1949, it became one of only two sites in Texas for National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants. In 1959, UTSW became a full-fledged university with its own School of Medicine, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and Allied Health Sciences program. Later that year, it also opened its first hospital—Parkland Memorial Hospital—which has since become one of the busiest trauma centers in America. See topschoolsintheusa for SAT test centers and dates in Kentucky.

In 1969, UTSW merged with St Paul Hospital to form UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas (UTSWMC). This merger made UTSWMC one of the largest academic health centers in the United States. Over time, UTSWMC has become known for its groundbreaking research into cancer treatments and genetics as well as its excellent patient care programs. It is now home to dozens of research laboratories and institutes specializing in areas such as cancer biology, neuroscience and cardiovascular diseases. Additionally, UTSWMC offers an impressive variety of educational programs including undergraduate degrees in medicine and biomedical sciences as well as graduate-level degrees such as MDs and PhDs.
