The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) was established in 1959 as the first academic health center in the state of Texas. It was created through a legislative act to provide quality education and research opportunities in the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, allied health and biomedical sciences. The university has since grown to include five schools: Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Health Professions and Graduate Biomedical Sciences.
