The University of Texas at Brownsville was founded in 1973 and was originally known as the Pan American University. It was established as a result of a merger between Pan American College and the University of Texas at Brownsville. The university is now part of the University of Texas System and serves over 7,000 students. The university offers 79 undergraduate degrees, 25 master’s degrees, and 8 doctoral degrees.

The university has experienced many changes since its founding in 1973. In 1991 it became part of the newly formed University of Texas System and changed its name to the University of Texas at Brownsville. The University of Texas at Brownsville (UTB) is located in the city of Brownsville, Texas. UTB is part of the University of Texas system and offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate degree programs. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, UTB had an enrollment of 8,261 students in fall 2018. Of those students, 5,812 were undergraduates and 2,449 were graduate students.
