The University of Scranton, located in Pennsylvania, was founded in 1888 by the Most Reverend William O’Hara, Bishop of Scranton. It began as a Jesuit college for men and was originally known as St. Thomas College. In 1938, the college became coeducational and changed its name to the University of Scranton. In 1942, the university became a member of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities.
