The University of Saskatchewan was established in 1907 as a college of the newly formed provincial university. It is the largest educational institution in Saskatchewan and one of Canada’s top research universities. The University of Saskatchewan has a long and distinguished history, beginning with its founding as the Territorial University of Saskatchewan in 1883. The university’s first president, Walter Murray, was instrumental in securing the university’s charter from the federal government and ensuring its successful establishment. Under his leadership, the university grew rapidly, expanding its academic programs and student body. By 1912, it had grown to include colleges of applied science, medicine, law and agriculture. In 1912 it was renamed University of Saskatchewan to reflect its expanded scope and role in providing education for a growing province.
Since then, the university has continued to expand its academic offerings and research activities. Today it offers more than 200 undergraduate and graduate degree programs across 10 academic faculties. It is also home to several world-class research institutes including VIDO-InterVac (a vaccine development centre) and SABRIC (the Saskatchewan Biosciences Research Institute). The university has also established partnerships with Indigenous communities to support their educational goals through initiatives such as Indigenous Student Services and Indigenous Student Centres on campus. These initiatives have helped create a more inclusive learning atmosphere for students from all backgrounds. Check LOCALCOLLEGEEXPLORER.COM for a list of colleges and universities in Vermont.
