The University of Redlands was founded in 1907 by a group of local Congregationalists who wanted to provide an education that was “intellectually stimulating and morally uplifting”. The university was originally known as the Redlands College and Academy, and it started with just 13 students. Over the years, the college grew in size and scope, offering more courses and expanding its program offerings. In 1921, the college was granted university status by the state of California and changed its name to University of Redlands.
Since then, the University of Redlands has continued to grow and evolve to meet the changing needs of its students. In 1963, it became affiliated with the United Church of Christ, which helped to strengthen its commitment to religious education. The university also added new programs such as business administration in 1965 and social work in 1966. Today, it is home to more than 4500 students from all over the world who are pursuing degrees in fields ranging from business administration to music therapy. In addition, it offers a number of graduate degrees as well as several unique programs such as their award-winning MBA program which focuses on sustainability leadership. The University also continues to expand its global reach through study abroad programs that allow students to explore different cultures and gain real-world experience through internships abroad.
