The first classes were offered in 1975, with a total enrollment of 204 students. This marked the beginning of a new era for the university as it sought to become more research-focused and expand its academic offerings further. In subsequent years, UPR-A has continued to expand its graduate programs and research initiatives while maintaining its commitment to providing quality undergraduate education. Today, UPR-A offers bachelor’s degrees in over 24 disciplines and master’s degrees in 10 fields including accounting, engineering management and public health. Additionally, the university has increased its international presence by establishing partnerships with universities around the world such as China’s Beijing Normal University and Spain’s Universidad de Sevilla.
