University of Northern Colorado Acceptance Rate, Average GPA, SAT and ACT Scores

The University of Northern Colorado (UNC) has a long and proud history. Founded in 1889 as the State Normal School of Colorado, it was the first public institution of higher education in the state. Initially, the school focused on providing teacher education and training, but with time its scope broadened to include other areas of study. In 1911, it was renamed Colorado State Teachers College and began offering bachelor’s degrees in education. In 1935, it was again renamed to Colorado State College of Education and started offering master’s degrees in 1940.

In 1957, the college’s name changed to University of Northern Colorado and its curriculum shifted from solely focusing on teacher education to also include liberal arts studies. With this change came an expansion into new fields such as business, natural sciences, engineering and technology. The university continued to grow over the years with new buildings being constructed on campus and academic programs being added or improved upon. In 2008 UNC opened up its School of Biomedical Sciences which provides students with hands-on experience through research opportunities with faculty members. Today UNC is a comprehensive university that offers over 100 degree programs in five colleges: College of Education & Behavioral Sciences; College of Humanities & Social Sciences; College of Natural & Health Sciences; Monfort College of Business; and University College. Check LOCALCOLLEGEEXPLORER for a list of community colleges in Iowa.
