The University of New Orleans (UNO) was founded in 1958 as a private, non-profit institution. It was originally known as the University of Louisiana at New Orleans (ULNO) and operated under the auspices of the University of Louisiana System. In 1974, it became part of the newly formed State University System and was renamed the University of New Orleans.
