The University of New Hampshire (UNH) was founded in 1866 as the New Hampshire College of Agriculture and Mechanical Arts. It was the first public college in the state and was created to provide educational opportunities to students from all walks of life. The college initially offered courses in agriculture, engineering, and mechanical arts, but soon expanded its curriculum to include a wide range of disciplines. In 1893, it became the University of New Hampshire and granted its first degrees in 1895.
In 1923, UNH opened its first graduate school, offering master’s degrees in education and business administration.
