The University of New Brunswick (UNB) is the oldest English-language university in Canada. It was founded in 1785 and is located in Fredericton, New Brunswick. UNB’s original charter was granted by King George III of Great Britain, establishing it as the first English-language university in what would later become Canada. The original campus was located on the north bank of the Saint John River and included two buildings, College Hall and Old Arts Building. In 1829, a new campus was established on the south bank of the river, which is still its current location.
Since its founding, UNB has grown to become one of Canada’s premier universities. It has two main campuses – one in Fredericton and one in Saint John – as well as several satellite campuses throughout New Brunswick. UNB offers over 75 degree programs to its students, including Bachelor’s degrees, Master’s degrees, Doctoral degrees and professional degrees such as law and medicine. Its research activities span a wide range of disciplines ranging from science and technology to business and social sciences. UNB also has numerous partnerships with other universities around the world which allow students to study abroad or participate in exchange programs with other universities.
