The University of Nevada at Reno (UNR) was founded in 1874 as the State University of Nevada. It was the first public university in Nevada and was established in Elko, Nevada. The school was created with the mission to provide quality education for all Nevadans. In 1885, the University moved to Reno, where it has remained ever since.
Over the years, UNR has grown from a small college to a major research university. It now offers more than 145 undergraduate degrees and over 90 graduate degrees across nine colleges and schools. The school is home to many centers of excellence such as the Center for Molecular Medicine, the Earth Science Center, and the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory. The College of Agriculture, Biotechnology & Natural Resources is one of only two land-grant universities in Nevada and is recognized nationally for its research programs.
