The University of Mount Union was founded in 1846 by Orville Nelson Hartshorn and is located in Alliance, Ohio. It began as a small school of just 14 students, but it quickly grew to a larger institution. In the late 1800s, the university was renamed Mount Union College and began offering more degree programs. The college flourished and by the 1950s, it had become one of the most prestigious universities in Ohio. In 1975, Mount Union College officially became a university and changed its name to University of Mount Union. Since then, the university has continued to expand its academic offerings and facilities, becoming a highly respected liberal arts college with more than 2,200 students enrolled today.
