A bit of history
The University of Montpellier was founded in 1289 and is thus one of the oldest universities in France. At the same time, its history begins at least a century earlier, when, by decree of the then ruler of Montpellier, specialists began to be invited to the city to teach medicine.

A bit of history
The predecessor of the University of Nantes, the Studium Generale, was established in 1460 by decree of King Francis of Brittany. For those times, it was a truly advanced educational institution, in which everyone was taught and almost all the disciplines that existed at that time: law, medicine, theology, art, etc. However, at the end of the 18th century, the University of Nantes was divided into several higher schools and actually collapsed.
