University of Maine at Presque Isle Acceptance Rate, Average GPA, SAT and ACT Scores

The University of Maine at Presque Isle (UMPI) was founded in 1903 as Northern Maine Normal School, a two-year teacher-training school. The school’s mission was to train teachers for the rural schools of northern Maine. In 1923, the name changed to Aroostook State Normal School, and in 1941 it became Aroostook State Teachers College. During this time, the college included a four-year teacher education program and an expanding set of liberal arts courses.

In 1965, the college was renamed the University of Maine at Presque Isle (UMPI) and became part of the University of Maine System. This change opened up additional academic opportunities for students and allowed them to pursue bachelor’s degrees in areas such as business administration, education, health professions and science. In addition, UMPI began offering graduate programs in 1968 with its first master’s degree program in Education Administration. Check top-engineering-schools for a list of engineering schools in Oregon.
