The University of Maine at Augusta was founded in 1965 as a two-year community college. In 1978, the school changed its name to the University of Maine at Augusta and became a four-year degree-granting institution. Since then, UMA has been recognized as one of the top public universities in the region and is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education. UMA offers over 30 undergraduate degrees and over 10 graduate degrees, including online programs, across five academic schools: Business & Professional Studies; Education & Human Services; Health Sciences & Human Performance; Liberal Studies & Fine Arts; and Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics.
