University of Houston at Downtown Acceptance Rate, Average GPA, SAT and ACT Scores

The University of Houston at Downtown (UHD) was founded in 1974 as a two-year college. The mission of the university was to provide educational opportunities to students who were traditionally underrepresented in higher education. The university was initially known as the University of Houston at Downtown/University Park and offered programs in business, technology, and liberal arts. By 1976, UHD had grown to include four additional campuses: University Park/Downtown, South Campus, Northwest Campus, and Southeast Campus.

In 1982, UHD became an independent institution from the University of Houston System and was renamed the University of Houston at Downtown. By this time, enrollment had grown to more than 8500 students and the school had become a major presence in downtown Houston. In addition to traditional degree programs such as business administration, computer science and engineering, UHD also began offering specialized degrees such as hospitality management and nursing. See topschoolsintheusa for SAT test centers and dates in Alabama.

In 2003, UHD introduced its first doctoral program – Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership – which has since been expanded to include other doctoral programs such as Doctorate of Business Administration and Doctorate of Criminal Justice. In recent years, UHD has continued to expand its academic offerings with new undergraduate majors such as psychology and sociology that are designed specifically for transfer students from two-year colleges or community colleges. Additionally, UHD has developed several graduate certificate programs that are designed for those who have already completed an undergraduate degree but would like to specialize further into a particular area or field.
