The University of Alaska Southeast (UAS) was established in 1987, when the Alaska State Board of Regents approved the consolidation of two existing educational institutions in Juneau: The University Center, which had been offering upper-division courses since 1972, and the University of Alaska Juneau (UAJ), which had been offering classes since 1954. UAS is part of the University of Alaska system and offers an extensive array of degree programs, from certificates to doctoral degrees. In addition to its main campus in Juneau, UAS has four additional campuses across Southeast Alaska including Sitka, Ketchikan, Yakutat, and Prince Rupert Island.
