University of Advancing Technology (UAT) was established in 1983 as a private college in Tempe, Arizona. Its mission was to provide students with an education focused on advancing technology. The school initially offered computer-oriented courses and soon expanded to include degrees in media arts and technology, game design, robotics, software engineering and cyber security. With the growing demand for tech professionals, UAT began to expand its offerings and developed a wide range of degree programs.
In 2004 UAT was accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. This accreditation allowed the school to offer more advanced courses and degree programs that would help students become successful tech professionals. In 2006 UAT opened its doors to international students by becoming an approved SEVIS school for F-1 visas.
