Universidad del Este (UNE) was founded in 1968 by a group of educators, entrepreneurs, and civic leaders in the city of Carolina, Puerto Rico. The original mission of the university was to provide educational opportunities for students from all backgrounds. Since its inception, UNE has grown to become one of the largest universities in Puerto Rico with over 8,000 undergraduate students and 2,000 graduate students enrolled each year.
