Tulane University Acceptance Rate, Average GPA, SAT and ACT Scores

Tulane University was founded in 1834 as the Medical College of Louisiana. It was the first medical school in the Deep South and only the second in the entire United States. Its original mission was to provide medical care to those living in New Orleans, a city with a large population of immigrants and refugees. Tulane quickly grew into an institution with a broad range of academic offerings, including law, engineering, business, and liberal arts. In 1847, it was renamed Tulane University of Louisiana after its founder Paul Tulane.

In 1884, Tulane’s campus moved from its original location near downtown New Orleans to its current site on St. Charles Avenue. This move greatly expanded the university’s available land and allowed for greater growth over time. In 1912, Tulane added an undergraduate college and increased its research capabilities by founding a School of Tropical Medicine in 1915. By 1925, it had established itself as one of the top universities in the South with more than 4500 students enrolled across all divisions.

In 1934, Tulane received national recognition when it established one of the first graduate programs for Social Work in the country. During World War II, many students joined military service while others remained on campus to support their country’s war effort through various projects such as training pilots for air combat missions or working on radar technology development for submarines detection systems. After World War II ended, enrollment at Tulane tripled as veterans returned home from overseas and sought higher education opportunities at the university. Today, Tulane is known around the world for its excellence in research and teaching while providing meaningful opportunities to its students through internships and study abroad programs. Check top-engineering-schools for a list of engineering schools in Maine.
