Tufts University was founded in 1852 as Tufts College by Christian Universalists who sought to provide a non-sectarian education. The college was originally located in Boston, but relocated to the Medford and Somerville area in 1872. Throughout its history, Tufts has maintained a commitment to liberal arts and sciences education, and this is reflected in the university’s current offerings.
