Passport information

Generally required, must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the intended period of stay upon entry.

Visa information

Nationals of the following countries listed in the table above do not need a visa for Tonga for a stay of up to 90 days per semester provided they have a passport, a confirmed return or onward ticket and any visas for the next destination country and sufficient visas on arrival can prove financial means: EU countries ([1] Exceptions: Citizens of Ireland (Rep.) require a visa). Costs

Tourist visa (up to 1 month): free of charge upon entry. Travelers requiring a visa should contact the High Commission (see Contacts).

1 month stay.

Transit

Tonga is not a transit country. The provisions as described under Visa apply. If necessary, from the Tonga High Commission (see Contacts).

Application required

(a) Informal application for an entry permit to the High Commission of Tonga in London (in English, must contain: purpose of travel, point of entry, duration of stay, financing of travel). (b) Original valid passport. In justified cases (e.g. people who need their passport all the time) there is also the option of enclosing copies of the relevant passport pages and obtaining a sheet visa. Proof of sufficient funds

Foreigners must have sufficient funds during their stay.

Extension of stay

An extension (up to a maximum of 6 months) can be requested from the Immigration Department of the Department of Foreign Affairs in Tonga (Immigration Department Nuku’alofa, Tel. (00676) 26970).

Entry with children

German: Machine-readable children’s passport or your own passport. Austrians: Own passport. Swiss: Own passport. Turks: Own passport. Note: The same visa requirements apply to children as to their parents. Attention: In the case of minors traveling alone, it should be ensured that the Tonga immigration authorities are informed in good time by parents, relatives or acquaintances in Tonga about the arrival in order to avoid difficulties when entering the country. Since June 27, 2012, children need their own travel document (passport / children’s passport) for trips abroad (also within the EU). Entries of children in the parental passport are no longer possible.

Entry with pets

All pets must apply for an import permit from the Government Veterinarian (PO Box 14, Nuku’alofa) in Tonga. A health certificate and a rabies vaccination certificate are also required for dogs and cats.
