Texas Wesleyan University Acceptance Rate, Average GPA, SAT and ACT Scores

Texas Wesleyan University was founded in 1890 by the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. The school was originally called Polytechnic College and located in Thorp Spring, Texas. It was the first private college to open its doors in Fort Worth, Texas. The college moved to its current location in Fort Worth in 1914 and changed its name to Texas Wesleyan University. In 1921, the University changed its name again to Texas Wesleyan College and adopted a four-year curriculum.

In 1934, the college became coeducational and began offering a variety of degree programs including liberal arts, business administration, engineering technology, nursing and education. In 1951, it was approved as a full university with the ability to offer graduate degrees. During this time period, several new buildings were built on campus including a library (1953), student center (1958), and chapel (1959). The university continued to grow throughout the 1970s and 1980s with increasing enrollment numbers and new academic programs such as an MBA program established in 1980. See topschoolsintheusa for LSAT test dates and centers in Virginia.

In 1990, Texas Wesleyan celebrated its centennial anniversary with many special events taking place on campus throughout the year. In 1996 it received accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). This allowed for more students from outside of Texas to attend TWU as well as increased funding opportunities for faculty research projects. The 21st century has seen many changes at TWU including construction of new residence halls (2001), expansions of athletic facilities (2003) and opening of a new School of Business building (2007).
