Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) was founded in 1970 as the Laredo State College. The college was established to serve the educational needs of the growing population of Laredo, Texas, which had experienced an influx of new citizens in the 1960s. The college offered two-year degrees and began offering four-year degrees in 1982, when it became a university. In 1993, the school was renamed Texas A&M International University to reflect its expanding role as a comprehensive four-year university.
Since then, TAMIU has grown significantly and now offers a wide range of academic programs that span many different fields. TAMIU’s student body is diverse and includes students from all over the world. The university offers more than 70 undergraduate and graduate degree programs that prepare students for success in their chosen field.
