Visa information

Required for nationals of the countries listed in the table above, among others. [1] Tourists and business travelers can apply for the visa as an e-visa for a stay of up to 45 days (valid for 90 days, non-extendable) if they are nationals of one of the following countries listed in the table above : a) Germany, Austria and all other EU countries, b) Switzerland and (c) Turkey.

Note on the visa

A special permit is required for travel to the high mountains in the east of the country (Gorno-Badakhshan or Pamir), which can be applied for at the same time as the visa in Europe. The application in Tajikistan is also possible, but takes 2-3 weeks.

Visa types and costs

Tourist and business visa (multiple entries).

Validity

Normally up to 1 month, extension possible in the country. Only tourist visas and visas for business travelers can be applied for online as e-visas. All other visa types must be applied for by post or in person at the consular department of the responsible embassy (see contact addresses). The e-visa for a stay of up to 45 days is issued as an e-mail and must be carried during the trip. To apply for a long-stay visa that allows multiple entries, After the online application at the Tajikistan Visa Electronic Application Center, a personal visit to the embassy is necessary. In the event of a positive decision upon entry, the visa can be issued by a previously selected authority. Citizens of countries where Tajikistan does not have a consular representation can apply for their visa through one of the Tajik representations in the following countries: Germany, Austria, China (PR), Iran and Turkey.

Application required

(a) 1 e-Visa Application Form. (b) 1 passport photo. (c) Passport that is valid for at least 6 months upon entry. (d) Fee (via online bank transfer). (e) Sufficient Funds. (f) Booking confirmation for the outward and return or onward flight ticket. If applying by post, a stamped, registered return envelope must be enclosed.

Temporary Residence

Applications to the Department of Consular Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Processing time

Currently 3 working days (Germany, Austria), at least 2 weeks (Switzerland). Express visas are issued immediately if possible, otherwise within 2-3 days. e-Visa: 5 business days.

Legally Required Registration

Visitors are required to register with the Tajik Interior Authorities within three days of entering the country. The responsible registration office is called OVIR (Dept. for Visa and Registration) and is usually located in the city administration. Without registration, there is a risk of departure delays and fines. Exceptions: Tourists with visas of category “T” (“Touristitscheskaya”) are only subject to reporting to the OVIR after 30 days. There is also no obligation to register within the 45-day stay for holders of an e-visa that entitles them to stays of up to 45 days.

Entry with children

German: Machine-readable children’s passport or your own passport. Austrians: Own passport. Swiss: Own passport. Turks: passport. Note: The same visa requirements apply to children as to their parents. Since June 27, 2012, children need their own travel document (passport / children’s passport) for trips abroad (also within the EU). Entries of children in the parental passport are no longer possible.
