Tromsø is Norway’s fifth largest city with a population of nearly 75,000 people located in northernmost part of mainland Europe above the Arctic Circle. It offers visitors a unique experience due to its location near natural wonders such as midnight sun during summer months and Northern Lights during winter months when there are also opportunities for dog sledding or skiing near Tromsø Island or Lyngen Alps respectively. Norway also maintained strong ties with its former colonial power, Britain. Norway was a strong advocate for human rights and democracy around the world. It provided financial assistance to developing countries through aid programs such as NORAD (Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation). It also promoted gender equality both domestically and internationally through initiatives such as its ratification of CEDAW (Convention on Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women). In 2008, Norway was actively involved in international efforts to combat climate change by reducing emissions from its oil industry and investing in renewable energy sources such as hydropower and wind power. It was also committed to increasing transparency in global economic governance through initiatives such as reform of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank.
