Strayer University was founded in 1892 by Dr. Selden P. Strayer as Strayer’s Business College in Baltimore, Maryland. It was initially established to provide business education to students at a time when there were very few educational opportunities for those interested in business and finance. Over the years, the college expanded its curriculum to include programs in accounting, business administration, computer science, education, health sciences and information technology. In 1998, the college changed its name to Strayer University to reflect its commitment to offering a comprehensive range of academic programs.
Since then, Strayer has experienced tremendous growth and now offers more than 50 degree programs at campuses throughout the United States as well as online courses that can be taken from anywhere around the world. The university has also established partnerships with several leading universities and colleges across the country such as American University and George Washington University. This allows students to transfer credits between schools and take advantage of joint degree programs. Strayer also offers students access to career services such as job placement assistance and internships. The university is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) which is recognized by the U.S Department of Education as a reliable authority on educational quality assurance.
