Stevenson University was founded in 1947 by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur as Villa Julie College. The school began as a two-year college for women, offering courses in business and secretarial studies. In 1972, it became coeducational and in 1975 changed its name to Stevenson College. Over the next twenty years, the college expanded its academic programs, added several new buildings to its campus, and established satellite campuses throughout Maryland. In 1997, Stevenson College became Stevenson University and began offering master’s degree programs in addition to bachelor’s degrees.

Today, Stevenson University offers over 40 undergraduate majors and 14 graduate programs across its four campuses. It has been recognized as one of the top universities in Maryland for student success rates and job placement rates among graduates. Stevenson University is a four-year, private university located in Stevenson, Maryland. The school was founded in 1947 and has an enrollment of over 4,000 students.
