Southwestern University Acceptance Rate, Average GPA, SAT and ACT Scores

Southwestern University, founded in 1840, is Texas’ oldest university. It was originally located in Georgetown, Texas and moved to its present location in Georgetown in 1903. Its original name was Rutersville College, named after one of its founders, Dr. Edward Rutersville. The school’s original mission was to provide a quality education for the children of early settlers of the area.

In 1873 the school’s name was changed to Southwestern University to reflect the expansion of its programs and curriculum offerings. In 1899 Southwestern became affiliated with the Methodist Church and began offering courses in theology and divinity. This affiliation with the church enabled Southwestern to become one of the first universities in Texas to admit students regardless of race or gender, making it a leader among educational institutions during that time period.

Throughout its history, Southwestern has remained committed to providing students with an exceptional education that is both rigorous and comprehensive. In addition to offering undergraduate degrees in traditional fields such as business, education and engineering, Southwestern also offers graduate degrees in fields such as public policy, medicine and law. The university has also established a number of research centers dedicated to exploring topics such as medical ethics, energy technology and environmental science. These centers provide students with unique opportunities for interdisciplinary studies that are not available at other universities throughout Texas or even nationally. See topschoolsintheusa for LSAT test dates and centers in Mississippi.
