Southwest Baptist University (SBU) was founded in 1878 by a group of dedicated Baptists. Located in Bolivar, Missouri, the school began as a small academy offering instruction in Bible studies and other basic subjects. Later, the school was granted college status and changed its name to Southwest Baptist College in 1905. In 1989, the college was granted university status and changed its name to Southwest Baptist University.
