Founded in 1932 as the New Hampshire School of Accounting and Secretarial Science, SNHU was initially established to provide practical career training to local residents. In 1961, the school changed its name to New Hampshire College of Accounting and Commerce and began offering associate’s degree programs. Over the next two decades, the school continued to grow, adding more degree programs and changing its name once more in 1981 to New Hampshire College. In 1995, the college was granted university status by the state of New Hampshire, becoming Southern New Hampshire University.
