Southern Nazarene University was founded in 1899 by the Church of the Nazarene. The university was originally located in Bethany, Oklahoma, and was known as the Bethany-Peniel College. It was established to provide a liberal arts education to students from all walks of life. Over the years, Southern Nazarene University has grown and expanded its offerings to include over forty undergraduate and graduate programs. In 1972, SNU moved from its original location in Bethany to its current location in Bethany, Oklahoma. Since then, SNU has become an accredited member of The Higher Learning Commission and is now home to more than 3,000 students each year.
