Silver Lake College was founded in 1935 by the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity. The college was originally established as a two-year college, but it quickly grew to become a four-year college offering both undergraduate and graduate programs. It was originally located in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, but it moved to its current location in Fond du Lac in 1945.
The college has seen many changes since then. In 1975, a new dormitory and library were built to accommodate the growing student body. In 1999, the college further expanded its academic offerings with the addition of online courses and degree programs. In 2010, Silver Lake College opened a new Science Center on campus which houses biology and chemistry labs as well as other scientific equipment for student use. The college also added a new athletic complex in 2011 which includes an outdoor track, soccer field and basketball court for student athletes. Silver Lake College has also recently added several new majors including Music Therapy and Environmental Science & Sustainability Studies.
