Visa information

Attention: Before entering Sierra Leone, online registration is mandatory. Required for nationals of the countries listed in the table above, among others. Visa-on-Arrival: EU citizens, among others, can apply for a visa upon arrival.

Germany, Austria and Switzerland tourist and business visa: 100 € (stay up to 3 months, single entry); €150 (stay up to 6 months, multiple entries); 200 € (stay up to 12 months, multiple entry). On-Arrival Visa: US$80.

Valid for 3 months from the date of issue; the length of stay is determined upon entry. Possibility of extension on site, maximum length of stay: 12 months.


Otherwise, transit travelers who require a visa and who fly on with the next connection within 24 hours and do not leave the transit area do not require a transit visa. Consulate or consular department of the embassy (see contact addresses). An entry visa for a stay of 30 days with a validity of 90 days can also be applied for online.

Application required

Entry visa: (a) 2 application forms (downloadable from the website of the relevant diplomatic mission). (b) 2 color passport photos with white background. (c) Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the stay. (d) Proof of sufficient funds for the duration of the stay. (e) Fee (bank transfer with receipt). (f) Invitation or Confirmation of Accommodation. (g) Return or onward flight tickets with a description of the itinerary. (h) Proof of vaccination against yellow fever. Business visa additionally: (i) Letter of secondment from your own company in English with information on the purpose and duration of the trip and confirmation of the assumption of costs. (j) Invitation of the business partner in Sierra Leone.

Processing time

Entry with children

German: Machine-readable children’s passport (2 passport photos must always be enclosed) or your own passport. Austrians: Own passport. Swiss: Own passport. Turks: Own passport. Note: The same visa requirements apply to children as to their parents. Note: Unaccompanied minors should have a travel permit issued by their parent/guardian who is not traveling with them. Since June 27, 2012, children need their own travel document (passport / children’s passport) for trips abroad (also within the EU). Entries of children in the parental passport are no longer possible.
