School of Visual Arts Acceptance Rate, Average GPA, SAT and ACT Scores

The School of Visual Arts (SVA) was founded in 1947 by the artists Silas H. Rhodes and Burne Hogarth as the Cartoonists and Illustrators School. Its first classes were held in rented classrooms located in the former Tammany Hall building at 209 East 23rd Street, Manhattan. The school was designed to provide professional training in cartooning, illustration and other related fields for aspiring artists.

In its early years, SVA had a strong focus on cartoons, comics, and illustrations, offering classes on topics such as anatomy, life drawing, perspective drawing, comic book production, advertising design and more. As its student body grew, so did its course offerings; by the 1970s SVA began offering courses in graphic design, photography and video production. In the 1980s SVA added courses in computer graphics and 3D animation to its curriculum as well as an MFA program for film production.

Today SVA has expanded its offerings even further to include programs such as animation & digital arts; art education; fashion & textile studies; fine arts; graphic design & advertising; illustration; interior design; motion graphics & broadcast design; photography & multimedia storytelling; printmaking & book arts; sculpture & extended media; typeface design & typography and visual development for games & film. With over 4500 students enrolled each year from around the world, SVA is one of the most influential art schools in America with many notable alumni who have gone on to become successful professionals in their chosen fields of study. Check Educationvv for business education in Ohio.
