Salish Kootenai College (SKC) is a tribally-controlled college located on the Flathead Indian Reservation in Montana. It was founded in 1977 as the first tribally-controlled college in the United States. The college was established by the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes of the Flathead Indian Reservation to provide higher education opportunities to Native Americans living on and near the reservation. SKC’s mission is “to provide quality higher education that encourages personal development, fosters cultural awareness, strengthens tribal sovereignty and promotes economic self-sufficiency”.
The college offers Associate of Arts (AA) degrees as well as a variety of certificate programs and professional development courses.
