Rwanda Travel Information

According to localtimezone, Rwanda is a country in Africa bordering Congo-Kinshasa, Uganda, Tanzania and Burundi. Rwanda has been independent from Belgium since 1962. The capital of Rwanda is Kigali. A number of large cities in Rwanda are: Butare, Gitarama, Ruhengeri and Gisenyi.

Rwanda has a turbulent history. In 1994 a civil war (Rwandan genocide) raged in which Tutsis and moderate Hutus were murdered. Approximately 500,000 to 1 million people died. At the moment the country is stable but this can change constantly. approximately 60% of the Rwandan population lives below the poverty line. The landscape of Rwanda is hilly and characterized by many mountains, tropical rainforests and volcanoes. There are tea plantations and fields for agriculture everywhere. There are also many National Parks where many wild animal species occur such as gorillas, lions, giraffes, elephants, leopards, hyenas and hippos. In addition, there are approximately 275 bird species.

Best time
January, July, August and September are the best months to travel to Rwanda. This avoids the prolonged rainy seasons.

Kinyarwanda, French and English are the official languages ​​in Rwanda.

Travel documents
You must have a passport that is valid for at least 6 months upon arrival in Rwanda.
An e-visa is required for a visit to Uganda. You can apply for it online at the official website irembo.gov.rw. It is also possible to purchase an East Africa visa. This is also valid in Uganda and Kenya.

Tap water
It is not recommended to drink water from the tap.
If you are unable to buy bottled water, use a water purifier to purify the water or boil the water for 5 minutes. After this you can safely use it as drinking water and for things like brushing teeth, cleaning lenses and washing vegetables and / or fruit.
