Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey at Newark is a public research university that has been serving the state since 1766. Founded as Queen’s College in New Brunswick, Rutgers is the eighth oldest college in the United States. The college was renamed Rutgers College in 1825 and became Rutgers University in 1924. In 1946, Rutgers established its Newark campus, which then became independent from Rutgers-New Brunswick in 1958.
