Rush University was founded in 1972 as an independent division of Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center. The University was created to provide a comprehensive academic program for health sciences professionals and to train the next generation of healthcare providers. Rush initially offered just a few undergraduate and graduate programs in nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and health systems management. As the years passed, more programs were added including physician assistant studies, physical medicine and rehabilitation, speech-language pathology, clinical psychology and social work.
